His Excellency, the Governor of Maharashtra, Shri. S.M. Krishna has initiated a novel inter university research project competition named ‘AVISHKAR’ in the year 2006. This activity, unique in its nature and Savitribai Phule Pune University has taken special efforts to increase the participation of the talented students from rural and urban areas. Special efforts were taken to organize Regional competitions, organize special training to these students and provide them necessary help and guidance to enhance their abilities to present their work in an effective manner.

Aims and Objectives of AVISHKAR:

  • To inculcate research culture among students
  • To encourage original and novel thinking
  • To provide an opportunity for expression of academic talent
  • To promote interaction among academia, R & D Institutes and Industries

Categories for Participation:

  • Humanities, Languages, Fine Arts, etc.
  • Commerce, Management, Law
  • Pure Sciences
  • Agriculture and Animal Husbandry
  • Engineering & Technology
  • Medicine and Pharmacy

Each college/institution can send separate entries for four levels of:

  • UG Level
  • PG level
  • Post PG level
  • (M. Phil /PhD)
  • Teacher level

Guidelines of the participants:

  • Projects can be in the form of live demonstration /models / posters and should be based on innovative ideas, in given six categories.
  • Each college/institution can send a maximum of two entries in each category, irrespective of their levels (UG/PG / M.Phil-Ph.D.)
  • In the First Round, All contestants are expected to display their posters of 1m X 1m size before a panel of judges appointed for the purpose.
  • Selected projects from the I-Round will have to give oral presentation before Judges.
  • Each oral presentation will be given 8 minutes for presentation and 2 minutes for question and answers.
  • There is no restriction on the number of students engaged in each of the team but only one representative will present the Project at the exhibition.
  • All required basic infrastructural facilities like working space, electricity, water, tables, mounting boards, LCD projector, overhead projector etc., will be made available. For any special requirements, if any, participants should inform the coordinator well in advance.
  • All entries should be forwarded through the principal of the college /Head of the institution.
  • Registration is compulsory for all participants. There will be no registration fee.
  • Participants will be issued participation certificates from the University.
  • Mounting boards (poster display boards) of 1m X 1m size will be made available.
  • The decision of judges will be final and binding on all participants.
  • All winning teams will be informed about their selection on the same day.
  • Winning teams will be selected for participation in the STAGE-II held which will be held at Savitribai Phule University, Pune.
  • Ordinance 163. Grant of additional marks for extra-curricular activities.
    Notwithstanding anything contained in any other Ordinance, maximum fifteen marks may be granted to candidate appearing for University examination of any degree, diploma or certificate, as an incentive, for his Participation in any one or more of the following activities.
  • (e) Research Competition: (i) A candidate participated in Savitribai Phule Pune State Level Research Competition (‘Avishkar’) approved by the Chancellor through Board of Colleges and University Development, Savitribai Phule Pune University, will get five marks in that particular academic year.
  • OR (ii) A candidate participated through Board of Colleges and University Development, Savitribai Phule Pune University and obtained an award/prize in State Level /Inter University Research (‘Avishkar’) Competition will get ten marks in that particular academic year
  • OR (iii) A candidate participated in All India Inter-University Research (Anveshan) Competition sponsored by Association of Indian Universities (A.I.U.), New Delhi, through Board of Colleges and University Development, Savitribai Phule Pune University, will get 15 marks in that particular academic year.
  • Fellowship for State level Winners:

    a. Avishkar Graduation Fellowship @ 3,000/- per month for a period of 10 months to the winners from UG and PG.

    b. Avishkar Research Fellowship @ Rs. 6,000/- per month for period of 24 months to the winners of Post PG Category.

In 2019-2020,a total of 21 universities participated at the state level Avishkar competition. In which 48 students participated from SPPU among them 3 students were from our college.
